EU email API

A transactional email API hosted in the EU.

Tratto is a transactional email API hosted in the EU. The API runs on Google Cloud europe-west1 (Belgium), its data sits in Firestore eur3 (EU multi-region), and email goes out through AWS SES eu-west-1 (Ireland). Transactional email, campaigns and automation flows go through one REST API, with 3,000 emails free every month.

Who is responsible for what

When you send email through Tratto, you are the data controller and Tratto is your processor. Google Cloud and AWS are US-headquartered companies: Tratto uses their EU regions, and names the region of every service instead of writing "EU-hosted" and stopping there.

What we don't have yet

Three things are on the roadmap, with no date yet. A standard data processing agreement (GDPR Article 28): until it is published, write to [email protected] if you need one before integrating. An SMTP relay, next to the REST API and the Node.js, Python and PHP SDKs. A SOC 2 report and an ISO 27001 certificate. This page will say each one is available when it is, not before.

Questions

Where is my data stored?
In EU regions only: Firestore eur3 (EU multi-region) for the database, BigQuery europe-west1 (Belgium) for email events, and AWS SES eu-west-1 (Ireland) for delivery. The API itself runs on Cloud Run in europe-west1.
Does Tratto use US companies?
Yes. Google Cloud and AWS are headquartered in the United States; Tratto uses their EU regions. The full list of providers, with what each one does and where, is on the sub-processors page.
Can I send campaigns as well as transactional email?
Yes, from the same REST API and the same verified domains. Campaigns and flows carry a one-click unsubscribe header (RFC 8058) that works without any infrastructure on your side.
Does Tratto support SMTP?
Not yet: SMTP is on the roadmap. Today Tratto is a REST API, with SDKs for Node.js, Python and PHP, and plain HTTP examples in the documentation.
How much does it cost?
3,000 emails a month are free. During the private beta every invited tester is on the Free plan; paid plans are listed on the pricing page but can't be purchased yet.
