Why We Built Tratto

We got tired of wrestling with legacy SMTP infrastructure and fragmented email tooling. Here's why we built Tratto from scratch, and what changed for our team.

A year ago, we were duct-taping three different providers together for our own product: one for transactional, one for campaigns, one just to get decent deliverability numbers. Every outage, every reputation drop, every "why didn't this email arrive" support ticket came back to the same root cause: email infrastructure hasn't fundamentally evolved in decades, even though it's still the most reliable delivery channel we have.

Most developers today juggle multiple tools: SendGrid for transactional, ConvertKit for newsletters, Mailgun for routing. Each requires separate authentication, separate bounce lists, separate analytics. It's fractured. It's exhausting.

The Problem We Faced

When we first tried building a serious email product, we hit three walls immediately:

  1. Legacy SMTP: still the standard. We were managing reputation, rotating credentials, monitoring bounce rates manually.
  2. Opaque dashboards: black-box analytics that tell you what happened but not why.
  3. Privacy theater: most "GDPR-compliant" solutions still store data in the US by default.

The email industry optimizes for volume (marketing operations), not reliability (developers). When you want to send a password reset or an order confirmation, you shouldn't have to rent enterprise infrastructure.

What We Built Instead

Tratto is built around a single principle: one integration, full control.

  • One API for transactional, campaigns, and automation
  • EU-hosted by default: your data stays in Europe
  • Real observability: see exactly what happened to each message
  • Priced for builders: 3K free emails every month, flat-rate tiers by volume, no seat charges

We didn't reinvent email. We removed the friction.

What This Means for You

If you're currently:

  • Gluing together 3+ email tools → Tratto is one API for all of it
  • Rotating credentials by hand → Tratto handles it
  • Storing customer data in the US against policy → Tratto is EU-native
  • Paying per-seat or per-feature → Tratto scales with your volume, not your headcount

Start small, scale without switching tools, keep your data in Europe. That's Tratto.

We're in private beta right now, onboarding small batches of developers every two weeks. If this resonates, join the waitlist. We're building this with early users, not for them.
