Resend vs Tratto: a fair comparison
We respect what Resend built. Here's the one architectural difference that actually separates us—data residency—and an honest look at where Resend is simply ahead.
Resend made email infrastructure interesting again. We respect the product.
This post used to contain a feature table that flattered us by being wrong about them. It's been rewritten. Everything below about Resend comes from their own public pages, linked so you can check it.
The difference that actually matters: where the data lives
Resend lets you pick a sending region. Their regions documentation lists four: North Virginia (us-east-1), Ireland (eu-west-1), São Paulo (sa-east-1), and Tokyo (ap-northeast-1).
The same page is explicit about what that choice does and doesn't cover:
All account data, including email metadata, logs, and API records, is stored in the United States regardless of the sending region you select.
So selecting Ireland moves where mail is sent from. Your recipients, subjects, delivery logs and API records are still stored in the US.
Tratto stores all of it in the EU: Google Cloud in Europe for the data, AWS SES in eu-west-1 for delivery. There is no US leg.
Whether that matters depends entirely on you. If nobody is asking you where your processing happens, it's a non-issue and Resend's maturity probably wins. If you're in a regulated sector, or answering a procurement questionnaire, or your DPO has opinions—that sentence above is the whole conversation, and it's why Tratto exists.
Where Resend is ahead, plainly
Maturity. They've been doing this longer, at more volume, with a bigger team.
React templating. React Email — "a collection of high-quality, unstyled components for creating beautiful emails using React and TypeScript", developed in the open at github.com/resend/react-email — gives them a component-based template workflow. Tratto templates are HTML or Markdown; we have no equivalent.
Ecosystem. More integrations, more community, more Stack Overflow answers when something breaks at 2am.
Free tiers, since people compare them first
Resend's free tier is 100 emails a day, 3,000 a month (pricing).
Tratto's free tier is 3,000 emails a month with no daily cap, and two custom domains—enough to keep transactional and marketing mail on separate sending domains. Webhooks are not available on Free; they start at Starter.
Paid, Tratto is €29/month for 75,000 emails (Starter) and €99/month for 500,000 (Growth), VAT excluded. There's no overage billing and no per-contact pricing: contacts are unlimited on every plan, and if you hit your email quota, sending stops rather than silently costing money—you get warnings at 80% and 100% first.
When to choose which
Choose Resend if you want the most mature developer experience available, you're happy with React-based templates, and US data storage isn't a constraint for you.
Choose Tratto if EU data residency is an actual requirement—not a preference—and you'd rather have a smaller, newer product that keeps everything in one jurisdiction.
